TemplesWat Chalong
Wat Chalong is the largest Wat on Phuket to visit. The earlier you go the better really due to the heat and the crowds. It has several buildings including the main temple and striking murals painted on the walls with scenes from the life of Buddha. Also a statue of Luang Por Cham, who helped the people of Phuket conquer the Chinese Coolie Rebellion in 1876. From the top of the main tower you have some great views of the surrounding mountains.
Wat Phra Tong (The Golden Buddha)
This temple enshrines a golden statue of Buddha that is said to have sprung up from below the earth. The story tells of a young boy who after tying his buffalo to a post, fell down and died. His father dreamt that his son died for the sin of tying a dirty buffalo to a sacred object, as, what the boy had seen as a post was in fact the golden peak of the Buddha's conical cap. Later attempts to steal the image by the Burmese all failed and a horde of angry hornets eventually saw them off.
Wat Phra Nang Sang
It is said that the temple is built on the site of the historical Battle of Thalang. The temple over 200 years old, contains three very old statues of Buddha images, the largest in the world. In the belly of each statue is a smaller statue, hence they are known as, ‘Monks in the Belly’ or ‘The Three Kings’.
